Historic Downtown Plano's charming streets, brick facades, and vintage character make it one of the most underrated photography locations in all of Collin County.
Plano's best-kept photography secret
Most people think of Plano as a modern suburban city — and they're right. But tucked into the older part of town is a historic downtown district with brick-paved streets, century-old storefronts, colorful murals, and vintage signage that photographs like something out of a small Southern town.
It's one of our favorite locations precisely because it surprises clients. We consistently hear "I had no idea this was here" — and the variety of backdrops within a walkable area means we can move through several distinct looks in a single session.
Best spots in Historic Downtown Plano
- The brick alleyways — texture, color, and depth in every frame
- The mural walls — bold, graphic, and great for vibrant portrait compositions
- 15th Street storefronts — classic, charming, and endlessly photogenic
- The train depot area — historic architecture with open sky
- Haggard Park adjacent — add greenery to the urban mix
When to shoot downtown Plano
Late afternoon on a weekday is ideal — golden light hits the brick facades from the west and the streets are quieter than weekends. Weekend morning sessions work well before the restaurants and shops open up. We avoid midday due to harsh overhead light on the reflective surfaces.
