Sundance Square in Fort Worth is everything downtown Dallas isn't — human-scale, walkable, full of character, and dripping in Texas history. It's one of our favorite urban photography destinations in the entire Metroplex.
Fort Worth's most photogenic district
Sundance Square is the beating heart of downtown Fort Worth — a pedestrian-friendly urban district with 35 blocks of beautifully preserved historic buildings, brick streets, public art, and the kind of authentic Western character that Fort Worth is famous for. For photography, it's a dream.
Unlike more generic urban settings, Sundance Square has texture everywhere — worn brick facades, iron street lamps, covered walkways, and the dramatic backdrop of Bass Performance Hall. Every corner offers something visually interesting.
Best spots within Sundance Square
- Sundance Square Plaza — the open plaza with Bass Hall backdrop is iconic
- The brick alleyways between Main and Commerce — intimate and textured
- The covered Chisholm Trail walkway areas — beautiful filtered light
- Street-level building facades along Main Street — classic urban portraits
- The public art installations — bold, graphic, and conversation-starting
When to shoot at Sundance Square
Weekday evenings are ideal — the district is lively but not overcrowded, and the warm street lighting that comes up at dusk transforms the brick and stone into something special. Weekend middays can be very busy, especially around events and the farmers market.
Getting there from Plano and Collin County
Sundance Square is about 45–55 minutes from Plano via I-30 West. We travel to Fort Worth regularly and include it as part of our standard DFW service area. Parking is plentiful in the surrounding garages.
